The Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering originates in the former Department of Constructions which was founded in 1962. The department has significantly contributed to the reputation of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Building Services both at the national and international level.
After 1990, the department has been actively involved in starting new educational programs-such as Civil Engineering with teaching in English and French- as well as in developing new graduate master programs such as the ones mentioned below:

- Advanced Materials and Structural Systems
- Modern Concepts in Structural Steel Design
- Building Engineering

The academic staff of the department are well known experts in their field, both at national and international level. At national level,they are members of technical national committees: AICPS, AIC, AGIR, The Academy of Romanian Scientists, The Academy of Technical Sciences, The Academic Society of Civil Engineering “Prof. Anton Sesan”. At international level, they are members of international committees: European Association of Building Physics Experts CIB–TG15, ASTM-American Society for Testing and Materials, IABSE – International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering;, CIB W035 “Informal Settlements” and TG8/W100 “Evaluation Environmentale des Bâtiments”.
At the national level, the department has distinguished itself through research projects in partnership with MLPAT, INCERC, ANSTI, CNCFS, MCT, IPCT, ISPE. At the international level, the collaborations are represented by members in various scientific and research committees, collaborations with departments from famous universities as well as partners in various research and human resources development projects.
The research interests are: structural elements made of composite materials, sustainable development, building physics, wind action on buildings in urban areas, steel structures.
